Shotfax vs FaxZero: Clean Fax Without the Ads.
FaxZero lets you send a fax for free. That is genuinely useful, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If you need to fax a single document to a US number and you do not care about a cover page full of ads, FaxZero works and it costs nothing.
But "free" comes with trade-offs. The ads. The daily limit. The US/Canada restriction. The lack of a delivery receipt. If any of those matter for your fax, this comparison will help you decide.

2. The ads problem
When you send a free fax through FaxZero, the recipient does not just get your document. They get a cover page first, and that cover page has FaxZero advertisements on it. Your doctor, your landlord, your attorney, your HR department: they all see the ads before they see your form.
For casual, low-stakes faxes, this is probably fine. Nobody is going to reject your form because the cover page had an ad on it.
But think about the context. You are faxing because the recipient specifically requires fax. These tend to be formal situations: medical records requests, legal filings, insurance claims, signed contracts. In those situations, a cover page with ads looks unprofessional. It does not kill the deal, but it does not help.
FaxZero's paid option at $3.29 removes the ads. That is $0.90 less than Shotfax. If you are sending to a US or Canadian number and the $0.90 matters, FaxZero paid is the cheaper choice. That is an honest assessment.
Shotfax does not add a cover page at all. Your document goes through as-is, clean, with nothing prepended. No ads, no branding, no extra pages the recipient has to flip past.
3. Where FaxZero wins
Let's be direct about this.
Price, if you accept the ads. Free is free. If you are faxing a pizza order or a casual document and the ads genuinely do not matter, FaxZero saves you $2.99. That is real money you keep in your pocket.
Price, even without ads. FaxZero's paid tier is $3.29 per fax. Shotfax is $2.99. For US and Canadian faxes up to 20 pages, FaxZero paid is $0.90 cheaper. If you are sending multiple domestic faxes, that gap adds up.
No account required on either. Both services let you fax without creating an account. This is a draw.
4. Where Shotfax wins
No ads, ever. Your document goes through clean. No cover page with advertisements. No branding. Just your pages, delivered to the fax machine exactly as you uploaded them.
International faxing. FaxZero's free tier only works for US and Canadian numbers. Need to fax something to the UK, Germany, Australia, or any of the other 160+ countries Telnyx covers? Shotfax handles it at the same $2.99 base price. FaxZero cannot.
No daily limit. FaxZero limits free users to 5 faxes per day. If you need to send 6 or more faxes in a single day (it happens, especially with legal filings or insurance paperwork), the free tier cuts you off. Shotfax has no limit.
Delivery receipt PDF. Shotfax emails you a proper delivery receipt as a PDF with a timestamp and page count. This matters if you need to prove the fax was delivered, which is common with court filings and medical records requests. FaxZero sends an email notification but does not provide a formal receipt document.
Photo-to-fax. Shotfax accepts JPG and PNG uploads and converts them to a clean black-and-white PDF before sending. If you are standing in your kitchen with a form you need to fax, you can snap a photo with your phone and send it. FaxZero accepts PDF and DOC files but not raw photos.
File privacy. Shotfax deletes your file from its servers the moment delivery is confirmed. If file-retention timing matters to you (e.g. medical or legal documents), review each provider's current privacy policy directly to confirm how long uploaded files are kept — policies can change, so go to the source.
5. The honest recommendation
The verdict
If all of the following are true, use FaxZero:
- You are sending to a US or Canadian fax number
- You do not care about ads on the cover page
- You are sending 5 or fewer faxes today
- You do not need a formal delivery receipt
- Your document is already a PDF or DOC file
In that scenario, FaxZero is free and it works. Use it.
Use Shotfax when any of these apply:
- The fax is going to a doctor, lawyer, court, or government office and you want it to look professional
- You are sending internationally
- You need a delivery receipt PDF as proof of sending
- You want to send a photo from your phone instead of a PDF
- You are sending more than 5 faxes in one day
- You want the file deleted immediately after delivery
The $2.99 buys you a clean, professional, international fax with a delivery receipt and immediate file deletion. For formal documents, that is worth three dollars.
6. Frequently asked questions
Is FaxZero really free?
Yes, with limits. You get 5 free faxes per day, US/Canada only, with a cover page that includes FaxZero advertisements. The recipient sees the ads. The paid option ($3.29) removes ads and allows up to 25 content pages.
Does FaxZero put ads on my fax?
On the free tier, yes. FaxZero prepends a cover page with advertisements before your document. The paid $3.29 tier removes the ads. Shotfax never adds ads or a cover page to any fax.
Can FaxZero send international faxes?
No. FaxZero's free tier only supports US and Canadian fax numbers. Shotfax sends to 90+ countries via the Telnyx network at the same $2.99 base price.
Is FaxZero cheaper than Shotfax?
For domestic faxes, yes. FaxZero is free with ads, or $3.29 without ads. Shotfax is $2.99. If you are sending to a US or Canadian number and the ad cover page does not bother you, FaxZero costs less. For international or professional faxes, Shotfax is more practical.
Which service deletes my file after sending?
Shotfax deletes your file immediately after Telnyx confirms delivery. FaxZero does not specify a file retention policy. If you are sending sensitive documents, check both services' privacy policies.
Can I send a photo from my phone?
With Shotfax, yes. Upload a JPG or PNG and it converts to a clean black-and-white PDF before sending. FaxZero requires PDF or DOC format.
