Shotfax is the fax service for people who need one fax, not a subscription.

Most online fax services assume you want a fax number and a monthly plan. Shotfax assumes you do not. You need to send one fax, to one place, today, and then probably not again for a year. $2.99, upload, done.

1. Why Shotfax exists

Fax is not dead. US healthcare alone moves around 9 billion fax pages a year. 83 percent of US hospitals still accept fax as a primary document channel. Courts, tax authorities, immigration offices, and old-school landlords still ask for fax because it is legally stable, works offline, and leaves a transmission receipt. A lot of people find out fax is not dead the same way they find out their landlord still uses a Nokia, by being asked to use it.

The problem is the market. If you search for an online fax service you land on eFax, RingCentral Fax, MyFax, Fax.Plus, or Dropbox Fax (formerly HelloFax). All of them are subscription services built for people who fax many times a month, generally in the $7 to $20 a month range, plus an account and a fax number you now own. Fine for a small business that faxes every Tuesday. Absurd for someone who needs to fax a signed lease once.

The pay-per-fax alternatives, FaxZero and WiseFax, have their own trade-offs. FaxZero is free but prints ads on the cover page your doctor or lawyer sees first. WiseFax is a fellow pay-per-fax option at a similar price point. JustFax is also pay-per-fax but costs nearly $6 and still wants an account.

Shotfax fills the gap: single fax, one-time payment, no account, no cover-page ads, no monthly anything. Built on Telnyx, a carrier-grade fax backbone used by many online fax providers. Priced at $2.99 because Telnyx charges about 7 tenths of a cent per page, and everything else is just the cost of keeping the site up.

2. Who runs Shotfax

Shotfax is run by Povilas Konopackas as an individual activity under certificate in Lithuania, EU. That is the Lithuanian equivalent of a US sole proprietorship. The business is not a company, not a Delaware LLC, not a holding structure in Luxembourg. It is a person, filing taxes in Vilnius, operating a website hosted on Cloudflare.

Why that matters for you: the email address on the contact form goes to the same person who writes the code. If a fax fails and the automatic refund misbehaves, you email support@shotfax.com and you get a human answer, not a ticket queue. There is no customer success team because there is no customer success budget. There is also no venture capital, no growth mandate, and no pressure to upsell you into a subscription you do not need.

The business lives or dies on the transactional margin on each fax, which is small. That is the constraint that keeps the service honest: if Shotfax sells you something you did not need, the dollar is gone and a support email burns the margin anyway. Better to deliver one fax cleanly and have you come back next time you need one.

3. What Shotfax believes

• One fax should cost one fax. Not a month of a plan. Not an account. Not a recurring charge that appears on your card 11 months later. The price on the button is the price you pay.
• Your file is your file. Shotfax hands the file to Telnyx for transmission, then deletes it from R2 as soon as Telnyx confirms delivery or failure. There is no copy on our end. No human reads it. No machine trains on it. No backup tape.
• Refunds should be automatic. If the fax fails, the money comes back in 7 business days without you writing to support. This is built into the pipeline, not a policy that depends on good customer-support days.
• Paid ads should not mean bad UX. You land on shotfax.com, you see the upload form, you see the price. No email capture modal, no intercom pop-up, no newsletter signup before the product.
• Privacy should not require a lawyer to understand. The privacy policy is in plain English. Read it in five minutes.

4. How Shotfax stays at $2.99

The numbers: Telnyx charges about $0.007 per page for fax transmission. Cloudflare Workers, Pages, R2, and D1 are free at Shotfax's traffic volume and would cost a few dollars a month at 10x the volume. Polar.sh takes around 4 percent plus a small fixed fee as merchant of record, in exchange for handling VAT and sales tax globally. A one-page fax to a US number costs Shotfax roughly $0.15 all-in after payment processing.

That leaves about $2.84 of gross margin per fax. Most of it pays for Google Ads (because that is how people find the service), a small amount for hosting overhead, and the rest is the founder's actual compensation. There are no offices, no full-time employees, no VC investors, and no plans to raise. If the traffic justifies it, the team grows; if it does not, it does not.

5. What Shotfax is not

• Not a HIPAA-compliant fax provider by default. The infrastructure can support HIPAA under a Business Associate Agreement (both Telnyx and Cloudflare offer BAAs), but Shotfax has not signed one as the default offering. If you need to fax Protected Health Information, email support@shotfax.com first so the right BAA path can be set up.
• Not a fax-number receiver. Shotfax is send-only. You cannot get a Shotfax number and receive faxes. If that is what you need, a subscription service with a dedicated inbound number (eFax, Fax.Plus, or similar) is the right tool — check each provider's current pricing before signing up.
• Not a bulk fax service. The rate limiter caps uploads at a small handful per minute per IP, which is fine for a human sending one fax but not for a marketing campaign. Bulk fax requires commercial carrier contracts Shotfax does not have.
• Not a subscription in disguise. There is no auto-renew, no trial period, no forgotten card charge six months later. One fax, one charge.

6. Technology and trust

Shotfax runs on Cloudflare Workers, Pages, R2, and D1. The fax send goes through Telnyx. Payments go through Polar.sh as merchant of record. Telnyx webhooks are verified with Ed25519 signatures plus an independent API cross-check so forged failure events cannot drain refunds. Every public response carries modern security headers (HSTS, CSP, Permissions-Policy), and the upload endpoint does magic-byte validation on the file before storing it, so renamed executables cannot masquerade as PDFs.
